Why does a local number matter for a locksmith?
Lockout callers are stressed, in a hurry, and wary of scams. When they compare listings, a local 01 or 02 number signals a genuine nearby business; an 07 mobile could be anyone, anywhere. How does the number reach me when I'm out on a job?
Two ways. A Virtual Landline (£5/month + VAT) forwards calls on your local number to your existing mobile - live in minutes, no SIM swap. A Landline SIM (£10/user/month + VAT) puts the number natively on your SIM, so inbound and outbound calls both use it. Either way, the phone in your pocket is your business line.
I work nights on a rota - can calls follow the rota?
Yes. Set diverts by time of day so the daytime number rings the office and the night calls go to whoever is on callout. With 2+ Landline SIM users you can also use a hunt group to ring several phones simultaneously or in sequence - first to answer takes the job.
Can I record calls in case a customer disputes a quote?
Yes - on-network call recording is available as a paid add-on to Landline SIM. Because it happens on the network rather than in an app, there's nothing to remember to press. If a doorstep dispute arises over what was quoted or agreed on the phone, you have the recording.
What if I'm mid-job and physically can't answer?
Choose your fallback: ring a colleague via a hunt group, divert to whoever handles your overflow, or let voicemail catch it so you can ring straight back. For an emergency trade we'd always suggest a human fallback first - lockout callers rarely wait for a callback.
Does this need an app or internet? Signal can be patchy in stairwells and car parks.
