Do UK mobile numbers have area codes?

No. All UK mobile numbers start 07, and the digits that follow identify the provider the range was issued to, not a place. A mobile caller can be anywhere. Geographic area codes exist only on 01 and 02 landline numbers - see our UK area codes directory.

How do I find out which network an 07 number is on?

The prefix tells you which network the range was originally allocated to, and this directory covers all of them. For a specific number, use our free network lookup - remembering that UK numbers can be ported, so the current network may differ from the original allocation. No public data tracks porting.

Are all 07 numbers mobiles?

No, and this catches people out. 070 numbers are "personal numbering" services that merely forward calls - a favourite of call-back scammers, and often excluded from inclusive minutes even after Ofcom capped their charges in 2019. Most of the 076 range belongs to radiopaging services, with 07624 (Isle of Man mobiles) the notable exception. Everything else in 07 is normal mobile.

Why is a number from one of these ranges calling me?

Usually because someone ordinary is calling you. But scam campaigns rotate through mobile prefixes, and caller ID can be spoofed, so an unexpected call deserves basic caution: never give personal or payment details to an inbound caller, and check the number with our free phone number checker.
