Business call recording, done by the network
Every important conversation your business has happens on the phone - quotes agreed, complaints resolved, instructions given. Call recording turns those conversations into a record you can replay: for training, for settling "that’s not what we agreed", and for regulators who require it.
ONSIM records at network level: no apps to install, nothing on the handset, no way for a call to slip through unrecorded. £10/user/month + VAT on top of your service, with searchable transcription available on top.
One recording policy across everything
Most firms’ recording is patchy: the office system records desk calls, mobiles record nothing, and the calls that matter most - the ones taken in the van or after hours - vanish. Because ONSIM is the network, recording follows the user everywhere their number goes:
- Mobile calls - Landline SIM and business mobile users are recorded on ordinary calls, no app involved. See mobile call recording.
- SMS - text messages captured alongside calls on recording-enabled SIMs. See call and SMS recording.
- Regulated activity - retention, export and archiving built for FCA and sector rules. See compliance recording and FCA recording.
- Microsoft Teams - bring Teams calls into the same recorded estate. See Teams call recording.
Everything lands in one dashboard: search by number, date or user, play in the browser, download, or export to your own archive.
Add transcription: every call becomes searchable text
A recording answers "what was said" only if you can find the right call and listen to it. Transcription turns every recorded call into text alongside the audio - so you can search for the customer’s name or the disputed promise, skim a ten-minute call in thirty seconds, and hand exact wording to a colleague without making them listen. £10/user/month + VAT on top of recording.
What it costs
Call recording is £10/user/month + VAT as an add-on to any ONSIM service - flat, with no per-minute charges or storage tiers on standard retention. A complete recorded business line on a mobile is Landline SIM (£10) plus recording (£10): £20/user/month + VAT. Add transcription at £10/user/month and the full recorded-and-searchable setup is £30/user/month + VAT. Monthly rolling, cancel any time; regulated retention options priced on the compliance page.

Call recording questions
How is network-level recording different from a call recording app?
An app records on the handset, which means it must be installed, running, permitted, and not killed by the battery saver - and iOS barely allows it at all. Network-level recording happens inside the phone network as the call passes through, so there is nothing on the device to fail or forget. Every call on the number is captured identically, which is also what makes recordings evidentially credible: the person on the phone cannot switch it off.
Is it legal to record business calls in the UK?
Yes, with conditions. Under UK GDPR you need a lawful basis (for most firms, legitimate interests or legal obligation) and callers should be informed - the familiar "calls may be recorded" line. Regulated firms may be obliged to record: FCA rules require it for relevant financial services activity. Our free requirement checker and retention calculator map your obligations in minutes.
What exactly gets recorded?
Whatever you enable, per user: inbound and outbound calls on business numbers and ONSIM mobile SIMs, recorded by default or on demand. SMS can be captured too on recording-enabled SIMs. Recordings appear in the dashboard within moments of the call ending, tagged with number, direction, time and duration, and can be searched, played, downloaded and exported to your own archive. We can’t record MMS in the UK currently.
What does call recording cost?
Recording is £10/user/month + VAT on top of your ONSIM service - so a Landline SIM user with recording is £20/month + VAT all in. Transcription is a further £10/user/month + VAT for searchable text of every recorded call. Monthly rolling, no contract, no per-minute recording fees. Regulated-sector retention and archiving options are on the compliance recording page.
How long are recordings kept?
As long as your configuration says. Standard retention suits training and dispute resolution; regulated firms can set retention to match their obligations (FCA rules commonly mean 5 years, some regimes longer) and export to WORM-style archives. The retention calculator cites the exact rule for your sector.
What file formats do recordings come in, and how do we get them out?
Recordings are stereo WAV by default (RIFF, Microsoft ADPCM, 8 kHz - each side of the call on its own channel), with MP3 available as an alternative. Alongside the dashboard, an SFTP delivery feed supplies each call as audio plus a JSON metadata file (calling and called numbers, direction, start and end times, duration) - and the transcript too with the transcription add-on. Schemas for your developers: call metadata, SMS, transcription.
Can users switch recording off on their phones?
No. Recording happens in the network, not on the handset, so there is no app to disable, no setting to untick and nothing the user can uninstall. If your policy or regulator requires that recording cannot be bypassed by the person on the phone, network-level capture is the only architecture that honestly delivers it.
Can I trial recording before moving my numbers?
Yes - sign up on the website with a temporary mobile number and run recording (and transcription) on real calls first. When you are satisfied, port your existing numbers in. Your current service is untouched until the port completes.
Does it work on mobiles, or just office phones?
Both, and that is the point. Recording follows the ONSIM service, not a building: Landline SIM users are recorded on ordinary mobile calls wherever they are, business numbers are recorded however they are answered, and Teams calling can be brought into the same net. One policy, one dashboard, no gaps where the office system ends.
Work out your obligations, then switch it on
Two free tools do the homework: the requirement checker tells you whether your firm must record, and the retention calculator tells you how long to keep recordings, with every rule cited. Then recording is a quote and a SIM away.
