Call transcription: every business call, in searchable text

A recording proves what was said - if you can find the right call and sit through it. Transcription removes the sitting through. Every recorded call becomes text in your dashboard: search it, skim it, copy the exact wording into an email, settle in seconds what used to take an afternoon of listening.

It is a £10/user/month + VAT add-on to ONSIM’s network-level call recording - the calls are captured by the network itself, so there are no apps and no missed conversations, on office numbers and ordinary mobiles alike.

What transcription changes day to day

  • Disputes end faster. "You promised delivery on the 14th" - search the customer’s number, open the transcript, read exactly what was agreed, reply with the wording. No scrubbing through audio hunting for the moment.
  • Handovers stop losing detail. A colleague covering an account reads the last three calls in two minutes instead of listening for forty, and picks up mid-conversation like they were there.
  • Training gets specific. Pull every call where a price objection came up and review how each was handled - by text search, not by memory of which calls went well.
  • Compliance reviews scale. Regulated firms can search across calls for the phrases that matter to their obligations, rather than sampling a handful of recordings and hoping.

Built on recording the network does for you

Transcription apps depend on the recording existing in the first place - and on mobiles, that is exactly where app-based recording fails. ONSIM records at network level: calls on your business numbers and Landline SIMs are captured inside the network, with nothing installed on the handset and no way for a call to slip through. The transcript inherits that completeness. One dashboard holds the audio, the text and the search box, with retention and export policies applied to all of it together.

What it costs

Transcription is £10/user/month + VAT on top of call recording (£10/user/month + VAT). The complete stack on a mobile - Landline SIM with unlimited UK calls and SMS, every call recorded, every call transcribed and searchable - is £30/user/month + VAT. Flat pricing, no per-minute transcription charges, monthly rolling with no contract.

Call transcription questions

How does call transcription work?

Calls are first captured by ONSIM’s network-level call recording - no apps, nothing on the handset. Each recording is then automatically transcribed to text, which appears in the dashboard alongside the audio. You read, search or copy the text, and click back to the exact audio when you need to hear tone as well as words.

What does transcription cost?

Transcription is £10/user/month + VAT, added on top of call recording (also £10/user/month + VAT). A fully recorded and transcribed user on a Landline SIM is therefore £30/month + VAT all in: the SIM with unlimited UK calls and SMS, every call recorded, every call in searchable text. Monthly rolling, no contract.

How accurate are the transcripts?

Modern speech-to-text handles clear UK business calls well: names, numbers and everyday vocabulary come through reliably, and accuracy keeps improving as the underlying models do. Heavy accents, crosstalk and poor lines reduce accuracy - which is why the audio is always one click away. Treat the transcript as the way to FIND and skim the call, and the recording itself as the authoritative record.

Can I search across all my calls?

Yes - that is the feature. Search the dashboard for a customer name, a postcode, a product, a phrase like "cancel my contract", and every call where it was said comes back, with the transcript open at the mention. What used to be an afternoon of listening is a ten-second search.

Is transcribing calls legal? What about GDPR?

The rules are the same as for recording, because the transcript is simply another form of the recording: you need a lawful basis and callers should be told calls may be recorded. Transcripts count as personal data, so they inherit your retention policy and deletion obligations - which the dashboard applies to text and audio together. Regulated firms should start with our free requirement checker.

Are transcripts included in the SFTP feed?

Yes. If you take the SFTP delivery feed, each call arrives as a set: the audio recording, a JSON file of call metadata (numbers, direction, start and end times, duration), and the transcription. The transcript itself contains the words - who called whom and when lives in the metadata JSON alongside it. Full field-level detail is in the transcription schema.

Can transcripts be pushed to a webhook or emailed as each call finishes?

Not currently. Recordings, metadata and transcripts are available in the dashboard and via the SFTP feed. Webhook delivery as calls complete is on our roadmap, but we have no timescale to commit to yet - and we would rather tell you that than promise a date we might miss. If webhook push is a hard requirement for your integration, talk to us before you buy.

What format do transcripts come in?

Structured JSON: the full transcript text plus every word individually timestamped with a confidence score, separated by channel so each side of the conversation is distinguishable. That makes it equally usable for a human reading it and a system ingesting it. Download the transcription output schema with a worked example.

Can I test transcription before porting my main number?

Yes, and we recommend it. Sign up on the website, choose a temporary mobile number, and run recording and transcription on real calls until you are happy - then port your existing number in when you are ready. Nothing about your current number changes until you decide.

Which calls get transcribed?

Every call recorded for a transcription-enabled user - inbound and outbound, on business numbers and ONSIM mobile SIMs alike. Text messages on recording-enabled SIMs are already text, and sit in the same dashboard. Calls can’t be sent to email. Only text messages can.

Stop listening. Start searching.

Tell us how many users need it and we will have recording and transcription live on their numbers quickly - ported numbers included. Start with a quote, or check your recording obligations first with the free requirement checker.
