Three scam texts: how to spot and check them

Three scam texts claim a billing failure, offer a refund, or dangle a loyalty discount on your plan. The pattern and the goal match every network scam: your Three login and your card details.

What the scam looks like

Typical formats currently circulating (these are scams, not real messages):

Scam example

Three: we could not take your latest payment. Update your billing information to keep your service active: three-billing-uk.com

Scam example

Three: as a valued customer you qualify for 40% off your plan for 6 months. Claim: three-offers-gb.com

The discount variant is worth understanding: mid-contract "loyalty offers" harvested a wave of UK network credentials because the offer only needed a login to "apply". Captured network accounts are used for SIM swaps and for ordering devices on the victim's credit agreement.

The tells

  • ✗A domain that is not three.co.uk.
  • ✗Discounts that require logging in through the text link rather than appearing in your account.
  • ✗Any request for one-time codes.

What the real Three does

Genuine offers and billing status live in the Three app or at three.co.uk. If an offer is real, it is visible when you sign in directly - no link required.

If you get one

Do not click, reply or call any number in the message. Forward it for free to 7726 so your mobile network can block the campaign, then delete it. If a call or text claims to be your bank, hang up and dial 159 - the UK anti-fraud line that connects you to your real bank. If you have already entered card details, tell your bank immediately; if you have lost money, report it to Action Fraud. You can also check the sender's number to see what has been reported about it.

Three scam text questions

Does Three send discount offers by text?

Networks do market to their customers, but a genuine offer never requires you to log in through a link in the text - it appears in your account when you sign in directly. Treat login-via-link as the deciding signal.

Someone ordered a phone on my Three account. What happened?

Most likely your credentials were phished and used to order devices on your credit agreement. Contact Three immediately to freeze the account and dispute the order, change the password (and anywhere it was reused), and report to Action Fraud.
